A few months ago I saw a post on Facebook about giving our kids a mental break. The Mama shared that her son had had a rough day at school and they were talking and she could see that his eyes were pleading with her to just stop. She was questioning him and trying to figure out what had happened. When she stopped and looked into her son's eyes, she could see that he was done.

What this Mama did next was awesome.

She saw that her son was just done, so she asked him what would help him relax.

She drew him a bath and a drink and he was able to destress. The Mama stated that after that, her son didn't have any meltdowns and the next day at school went much better 🙌⠀

She filled up his cup!

I was so moved by what she did. It makes so much sense. We get so caught up in our kid's day and shuttling them to activities, that we don't stop to think how exhausting their day can be.

We forget that kids don't have the vocabulary to let us know what they need.

Imagine if we all gave our kids space to just be and relax.

  • There would be less meltdowns and temper tantrums.

How can we expect them to function if their cup is empty?⠀

I love that this Mama took a breath and realized that her son just needed a break. We need to give our kids the space to just be, without any judgement 💙⠀

I know I feel so much better after having some time for myself and filling up my cup ❤️⠀

The next time your child is having a melt down, stop and ask yourself, what are they trying to tell me? Give them space and the chance to fill up their cup.
