Agnes Mayer- RN, IBCLC

Hi! I’m Agnes, but my husband & friends call me Agi.

I’m a Mama, Wife, RN, Sleep Consultant, Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Prenatal Educator, and Certified Heart & Stroke Instructor dedicated to supporting your journey through motherhood.

Keep reading to learn more about my path, and why I love this work!

My background & training as a nurse...

I grew up in Edmonton, and in 2004 I graduated from the UofA with my BScN and moved here. The same night as I moved here, my now husband proposed to me via a potato (another story for another time). We got married in 2005 and in 2009 welcomed our son Aiden into our lives.

Ever since I was a little girl, nursing was a career that I was passionate about. I love working with people and helping make their lives easier.

In 2006 (after finishing the Perinatal specialty from BCIT), I started working in Labour & Delivery and Maternity. Labour & Delivery is where I felt I belonged, helping parents bring their babies into the world. It really is a blessing to be apart of this beautiful and life changing experience.

Founding MamaBear...

After having my son in 2009, I realized how lonely, frustrating and overwhelming being a new mom can be. And if I felt that way, with my experience, I can only imagine how other new Mamas felt. I struggled a lot as a new Mama with pretty much everything. I was recovering from an emergency c-section (my son was 8.7 lbs), my son was diagnosed with Bilateral Clubfeet, breastfeeding was a huge struggle, I felt like I would never sleep again and with all that I ended up with postpartum depression. I’ve never felt lonelier than when my son was a newborn.

My philosophy behind MamaBear Holistic care is to guide you in whatever part of motherhood you are in; to work with you, your needs, your concerns, your lifestyle to help make being a Mama easier. My role is to provide you with all the information and support you need in order to make the best decision for you and your family.

My purpose is to support you so that another Mama never feels as lonely and overwhelmed as I did.

Why I do this work...

What I find most rewarding is the relationship I get to build with you. It gives me such satisfaction to know that I’ve helped make this crazy journey of motherhood easier for you.

The feelings of being overwhelmed, lonely, and tired are not just experienced by new Mamas. They are experienced by women in any stage of motherhood. There are days where I still feel this way.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit. I’m looking forward to working with you and helping you in your journey through motherhood.

I bake cool cakes...

As a new Mama, one of the things that I found important was to do things that made me happy, that filled up my cup (I know that’s easier said than done). When my son was 18 months, I enrolled in the Michaels cake decorating class. Little did I know that I would absolutely love it. Since then, I’ve created many different cakes/cupcakes for friends and family, but take special pride in the one’s I’ve made for my son.

I love Disney...

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family and I are the biggest Disney fans. We have a running joke in the house that Mickey Mouse is my boyfriend. Honestly there’s no place on earth where I feel more at home. I love that when I pass under the sign that says “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy”, I become a little kid, who believes in fairytales, princesses and magic. The best part is that both my husband and son share my love of all things Disney.

I love Barre...

Another important part in keeping my mind, spirit and body healthy is my love of Barre Fitness. I started going almost 2.5 years ago and I've never looked back. It has completely changed my body and I've never felt better. It gives me an hour of escape and pushes me hard (which is what I need). The instructors are amazing and have become like family to me and to my boys. I encourage all you Mamas to find a fitness program that works for you. It will change you in ways you didn't think it could. You will feel better about yourself, have more patience (my husband and son can attest to that) and it's a great way to show your kids healthy habits.
